Chapter Twenty-Four – The Cost of Everything

I didn't want to lose you.

My hand loosens on his dark locks as I scan his face, thoroughly confused.

His eyes glisten. Inky. Obsidian. Onyx. A shiver shoots up my spine as he stares back at me, his gaze unflinching, his breathing even, his hand firm on my backside.

"You didn't want to lose me?" My features soften as he squeezes my hips with his thighs.

"I didn't want to lose any part of you," he reinforces as my mouth dries and my heart perks with interest. "I didn't want to lose your body," he whispers as his hand trails up my back and skims the bare skin between my shoulder blades. "I didn't want to lose your soul," he licks his lips as my attention flutters between how pink his lips suddenly appear and the hand curling around the nape of my neck. "I didn't want to lose your name, Elizabetta."

"My name?" I repeat, lost in a trance as his fingers massage the base of my skull and my body curls into him.

"I want every part of you," he moans as my pelvic bone rubs along his pants. God, he feels huge.

"What about what I want?" I mutter as he spins me around, slamming my back flush against his front.

He brushes the silky strands of hair off my neck before his lips connect with my ear and his palm splays across my lower abdomen. Heat floods my body as his hands possessively claim me in the middle of the upscale bar.

"What do you want, Elizabetta?"

Freedom.

I want freedom.

The question is a sobering one. A splash of cold water against my scorching, searing skin.

"You can't give me what I want," I inhale sharply as his hand slips lower on my stomach.

"I can try," he rasps as I stay frozen in place, unable to move, unable to breathe.

"I want to be free," I mutter under my breath.

"There is a cost for everything," Antonio exhales as his finger slides along my underwear line through my dress. I squirm beneath his touch. It's too much. It feels too good. It must be the wine talking. Because even his overpowering cologne suddenly smells enticing. Clean, fresh, spicy like cinnamon.

"How much?" I close my eyes and lay my head back against his shoulder.

His hand sinks lower before it runs along my thigh. "How much what?"

My fingers dig into his strong legs as his lips glide along my neck. "To buy my freedom."

Antonio chuckles darkly. "Death."

My head instantly snaps up as I try to turn, try to face him. Antonio keeps me firmly in place as his mouth parts and he sucks the sensitive skin on my neck. His teeth sink in next and it burns in the best way possible. I mentally scold myself for enjoying his masochistic display of ownership. The show he's putting on for a roomful of people.

When his mouth finally leaves my neck, I can feel the mark he's left behind.

"I didn't just buy you," Antonio hums, his heart pounding against my back.
